Stellenbosch University recently hosted a successful Open Day with more than 10 000 Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners, teachers and parents attending the event.
This was the second year the Open Day was hosted on a Saturday.
At the Faculty of Education, the first two information sessions were so well attended that people had to sit on the floor and by lunch time faculty representatives had run out of bags to hand out to prospective students.
The Faculty's student committee welcomed students before they entered the building while representatives of various departments and centres in the faculty - Curriculum Studies, Education Policy Studies, Educational Psychology and SciMathUS - were ready to answer to questions.
The Department of Sport Science presented activities at its facilities at Coetzenburg.
According to Michelle Swart, Manager: Media and Marketing at the Centre for Student Recruitment, the decision to host Open Day on a Saturday has definitely had a positive outcome.
"We receive wonderful feedback from especially parents who in the past might not have been able to attend the day with their children."
She said it is difficult to compare last year's numbers with this year, but from the feedback they received from faculties it seems as if the interest had been greater than expected.
