Stellenbosch University student and track athlete Justine Palframan has been included in the South African Olympic team for Rio2016.
Justine, who won gold in the 400m at the World Student Games in 2015 and more recently at the African Senior Athletics Championships as part of the 4x400m relay, is part of the 137-member squad that was announced on14 July.
"I'm excited, I'm relieved, I'm very happy," she said after the announcement. "I can't believe it is actually happening!"
As part of her preparation, she spent a week in June training at the Racers Track Club in Jamaica, home of the famous sprinter Usain Bolt.
She had to prove her fitness after struggling with injury earlier this year. This injury prevented her from defending her national titles in the 200m and 400m at the South African national track and field championships in April.
Stellenbosch University alumna and Stellenbosch resident Mari Rabie will represent South Africa in the triathlon while Maties cyclist Vera Adrian has been included in the Namibian team.
